I think that all parliamentarians in this House will agree on that. Religions should be free to define and sanction marriage as they deem proper for their practitioners. Quebec has had a form of civil union for a number of years now. As a result of decisions in several provinces, the traditional and universal definition of marriage violates the charter right to equality of homosexual couples who want to marry.
No matter how a person expresses their spirituality, or identifies themselves with religion, I think that in this House we can vote for what I call a supreme value, a value at the core of charters, rights and freedoms, in Canada and Quebec, and that is the right to equality.
This is what is called a circular argument.
After Mexico City's Legislative Assembly legalized same-sex marriages and LGBT adoption in Decemberdebate resurged in states where civil unions had been previously proposed. Here we have appealed to widely shared understandings to show that same-sex relationships — whatever view one might have of their morality or value — lack essential features that make a true marriage, and that make marriage a matter of public interest.

The Supreme Court said that Parliament has the authority to redefine marriage if it so wishes. How is it that by staying true to the argument at hand and not criticizing a thousand tiny points that are in-themselves wrong anyway you open yourself up to judgement.
There are billions of dollars going to foundations. I intend to vote yes because I owe it to those who have fought for this so valiantly, to those who await our verdict on the equal value of their citizenship and most importantly for generations of Canadians to come.
The government recognizes that the Auditor General would like to see the government go further in the areas of audit, evaluation and ministerial oversight. We can even see this in a number of less tangential cases: redistributive practices are restricted by majority preferences for low taxes despite the substantial harm that non-redistributive capitalism can do to poorer citizens.
